On Thursday 5th November, all of our students participated in NAIDOC Day activities. We started the morning with an outdoor assembly in Possum Glade. This was hosted by year 5 and 6 Beeliar P.S Aboriginal students. Levi from TA4 wore a kangaroo skin and spoke alongside his Great Grandfather, Mr Neville Collard. Levi you did a fantastic job and spoke so confidently in front of the school. Three students from Lakelands Senior High School performed a Yonga (kangaroo) dance which was excellent and enjoyed by all. We ended the assembly with a smoking ceremony to ward off the bad spirits. After a break to refuel, our students participated in a range of activities including making damper with Errol, throwing the Kylie (boomerang) on the oval with Jacob, making a Mia Mia using sticks, learning about the lifecycle of frogs and turtles and various art and craft activities. At recess, the children were given a bush tucker biscuit which was flavoured with Australian native lemon myrtle to eat. At lunch time the children were keen to have a feed of kangaroo stew and damper. Yum! Finally we were very lucky to have a story telling session with Mr Neville Collard in the undercover area.
This week we welcomed a new student to Miss Lauritsen’s class in TA2. Welcome, Kristy-Lee, we are so happy to have you with us!
