Principal News: Welcome to Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3! On Monday, all the staff returned from their well-deserved break and were involved in a full day of professional learning. Our workshops involved intensive learning in the areas of Play-based Learning, Kids Matter and Adult Resilience. This knowledge will support us as we continue to develop the best outcomes for all of our students and as we work towards achieving the targets in our Business Plan.  I was also very fortunate to be selected to be part of a professional learning program over the school break provided by the Department of Education’s Leadership Institute.  This program is specifically designed for the leadership development of principals and will continue throughout this semester. So far, it has been a wonderful opportunity for me to develop my leadership skills further through coaching, mentoring, webinars, workshops and collegial support. I am very excited about the semester ahead.

It was great to see the students return after their holidays yesterday. We look forward to another busy and engaging term with lots of fun activities planned. Some of these include NAIDOC celebrations, Book Week activities, swimming lessons for Willagee and Bull Creek sites, sports carnival at Willagee site and Cross Cultural Day. More information will follow soon about these activities.

As we have all returned from our school break, we have been hearing about the amazing holiday that Mrs Wendy Strang is having over in Europe. Although it has been strange to start the term without her here, it has been lovely to hear that Wendy is thoroughly enjoying the start of her retirement. A great start to the new chapter of her life. Thank you to those who contributed to making Wendy’s special assembly last term. It is something she will never forget as it clearly signified the amazing, positive and caring culture of our school community. We wish Wendy safe travels and the very best in her retirement.

This term we have something exciting happening! Recently as a school we have signed up to an online platform called ParentTV.  ParentTV is a website that has hundreds of videos from some of Australia’s and the world’s leading parenting educators. The videos are on topics including sleep, healthy discipline techniques, our kids and technology, bullying, and anxiety, just to name a few.  Most videos are between 2 and 5 minutes long, so they are easy to watch and can be viewed on any computer, tablet or mobile device. And the best thing about ParentTV through our school is that it is FREE for you as a parent of Fremantle Language Development Centre. Next week you will receive a letter detailing the login procedures as well as regular updates and information on our school website. We hope you take up this wonderful opportunity.

For the first time ever, WA is celebrating P&C Day on Friday 26th July. I’m sure you will all agree that we have an amazing P&C at Fremantle LDC that works “above and beyond” to support the education of our students. All our staff would like to acknowledge the efforts of our P&C and thank them for their time, love and support. Thank you! We would also like to thank the P&Cs of Caralee Community School, Beeliar Primary School and Bull Creek Primary School as their wonderful work at their schools have a positive impact on our students too.

I look forward to a great term.

Kind regards
