Beeliar News: Car Park and Road Safety

Dear Beeliar Families,

Please see below a couple of messages from Beeliar Primary School Principal, Louise O’Donovan.

Road Safety

We have had several reports from community members of near misses with Beeliar PS children crossing the road and using their bikes/scooters without helmets.  Please can I ask you to have a chat with your children regarding road safety, we will also address it at school.  This includes stopping at stop signs, wearing a helmet, walking scooters and bikes across crosswalks, looking both ways when crossing the roads and using hand signals for turning.  Please remember that it is the law to wear a helmet when riding a bike or scooter and we will be reinforcing this rule at school.

Thank you for your help with this matter as we endeavour to keep all students safe on the roads.

Car Park Concerns

I just want to say a big thank you for your patience and consideration during our drop offs and pick ups at Beeliar PS. Our number one priority is the safety of our children. However, at times when the “kiss and go” roundabout at the front of the school is full, cars are banking up along the road and causing an obstruction. This can cause cars to over take which is becoming dangerous. I am going to close the roundabout gate until 3.05pm as the children need time to be ready at the roundabout to get in the car. Please can I ask if you use the roundabout to delay coming until after this time and if the driveway is full to do a lap around until it is freed up. Hopefully, with a little patience we can all get home safely. Please feel free to comment with any suggestions or feedback.

Many thanks

Louise O’Donovan
