School Board News: Board Chair Report

School Review

Congratulations to Viv and the FLDC staff on the result of the recent School Review process (October 2021).  Many long hours of thought and work were put into presenting data and documentation to the reviewers.  The reviewers not only want to develop a sound picture of the school and its plans, but also require all assertions to be supported soundly by evidence.  A great effort, followed by a great result.

I was pleased to be able to speak with the two School Reviewers who came to evaluate the school’s journey to date.  One point that I made at the time, and I believe was well-received by the reviewers, related to the many parents who responded to the Parent Survey with the wish that the school would continue beyond Year 3.  I believe this is a testament to how well the school, and its staff, meet the needs of its students.  It was a delightful experience to share, with the reviewers, the many positive attributes of the school’s journey to date.

Board Structure

At this time of the year we have several members of the Board stepping down from their roles.  This due to the restructure of the Board as previously notified, and parents of students leaving the school having to step down from the Board.

On behalf of the FLDC Board I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the dedicated work undertaken over the past several years, and express appreciation to the following:

Jo Wiese – Board Chair 2015 to 2021

Spencer Flay – Board member 2015 to 2021

Mary Claessen – Board member 2015 to 2021

Michelle Livesey-Giles – Board member 2019 to 2021

Monika Jodihardja – Board member 2020 to 2021

The Board members aim to be a visible and tangible entity of the school community.  The work of the individuals above has really helped pave the way for the incoming Board to continue the uphold the high standards already set.

Appreciations

I would like to acknowledge the members of the School Board, through whose tireless care for the school, ensures the Board operates fairly and professionally and supports astutely, the work of the school.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge the amazing, dedicated and collective work of the staff of FLDC.  The caring guidance and leadership of Viv Doig, whose vision of excellence for the schools, is ably supported by Jennie Dawson, Nichola Middlemiss and Jodie Shepherdson.  The whole-school focus, and commitment to the individual needs of each student undeniably results in students who leave the FLDC in a much better place to participate successfully in mainstream education.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to join the Board.  I look forward to 2022 and working with the school.  As a member of the FLDC Board, I am excited about continuing to support working towards the achievement of the school’s planned outcomes, as set out in its new business plan.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, along with an enjoyable and relaxing break over the coming school holidays.
