Principal News: Public School Review Report

Earlier this term, our school had our Public School Review where we had 2 reviewers from the Department of Education visit our school for the day and meet with our staff, parents, and partners to validate our school self-assessment processes. The day went extremely well and we received wonderful feedback on all our school processes. I would like to thank all our staff, parents and school community for all the amazing work they do every day to make our school a wonderful learning environment for our students, staff and school community which was made clearly evident in our review. Please find below the link to our Public School Review Report on our website. Please let us know if you have any questions about the report or the review process.

Fremantle LDC Public School Review Report October 2021

Principal News: Welcome back to Term 4!

Welcome back to term 4. I hope you all had a lovely school break. It was lovely to see the students return last week and share their holiday adventures.

Public School Review

All staff were very busy on our first day back on our School Development Day on Monday of last week. We took this opportunity to review our school self-assessment in preparation for our Public School Review, which took place on Wednesday. This was a day where two Department of Education Public School Reviewers came to our school for the day to validate our self-assessment processes. Throughout the day they met with our school leadership teams, teaching and non-teaching staff, School Board Chairs, P&C President, host school principals, and parents from all three of our sites. It was a very rich day of discussions around our school processes and student achievement. Feedback was extremely positive. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to these interviews and providing such valuable information to our reviewers. I look forward to sharing with you the report when it is finalised and sent to us in a couple of weeks.

Referrals for 2022

Last week we also conducted our Placement Process for 2022 referrals. I’m sure you can all remember when you went through this process when your child first applied to be referred to our school. It is a time of mixed feelings of uncertainty, excitement and anticipation waiting on a possible offer of placement. We will be sending out our first round of offers this week, so we look forward to welcoming some new families to our school next year.

DLD Awareness Day

On Friday 15th of October we celebrated Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) Awareness Day.  This is a day aimed at raising awareness internationally for DLD. This is a big part of the reason for our schools’ existence, so we encourage you to spread the word. Raising Awareness of Developmental Language Disorder (RADLD) is an international organisation helping to increase awareness of this hidden, but common condition. They have a wealth of information about DLD on their website: https://radld.org/ . Each of our sites have had a staff morning tea to help raise awareness across our host schools. Our Speech Pathologists gave presentations, you can read some of the information presented here.

Principal News: End of Term 3 Update

Dear FLDC families

It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of Term 3 already. This term has been another busy one, with many fun activities for the students including:

  • Edu-Dance at our Willagee site
  • Sports Carnivals across all sites
  • Cultural Day where all sites came to Willagee
  • Assemblies

This week teachers have started their meetings discussing each child’s Individual Education Plan, and some families have attended case conferences to discuss their child’s progress and transition to mainstream. Our Year 3 Exit Case Conferences will take place at the beginning of Term 4.

We are very excited to be having our Public School Review on the first week back next term. We are currently in the process of uploading all our school achievements to send to the Department of Education by the end of this week. Public School Reviewers will then look at all this information and our school self-assessment processes during the school holidays. On Wednesday 13th October, the Review Team will visit our school for the school-based validation process. During this day, they will take part in a series of scheduled meetings with representatives of the staff and school community.

This has been a great opportunity to reflect on our amazing school and celebrate our great achievements. We look forward to sharing with you the feedback from the Reviewers around Week 4 of next term.

Happy Holidays

All staff and students are looking forward to a very well deserved holiday.  I wish all our staff and families a fun and restful 2 weeks. We look forward to students returning on Tuesday 12th October for Term 4.  Our staff return the day before to engage in a full day of professional learning.

Take care and stay well.

Kind regards

Principal News: Parent Survey

Fremantle Language Development Centre (FLDC) is committed to continuous improvement in its drive to achieve its vision of: “To be a school of excellence that empowers students to talk, learn and grow”.

We would be extremely grateful if you could complete our Parent Survey so that we can identify what is working well and how we can improve in the future. A link to the survey will be emailed to you tomorrow and responses are anonymous. There will also be an option to complete a paper copy if you would prefer. These will be available in your child’s classroom, so feel free to complete while you are waiting for your child at the end of the day or at drop off. Copies will be available in the office too, so please let Penny know if you would like a copy, or if you would like help to complete. The information gained from the survey will be collated and reviewed by the School Board where we will identify our strengths and areas for improvement. This will be valuable information that we can share as part of our Public School Review process that will be taking place on Wednesday 13th October (start of Term 4). Thank you so much for your support in working with us in our continuous school improvement journey.

Kind regards
